 An Old Fashioned Christmas Martini

 1 tsp simple syrup
 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 tsp maraschino cherry juice or grenadine
 1 tsp water
 2 oz. bourbon
 1 orange

This is a martini version of the classic Old  Fashioned, modified for a Christmas martini. Start with a slice of orange peel. Squeeze/twist the orange peel over the martini glass to release the oils. Rub the orange peel around the rim of the glass. Toss the orange peel into a cocktail shaker. Add a few cubes worth of coarsely crushed ice. Add the bitters, simple syrup, cherry juice, water, and finally the bourbon. I prefer Four Roses bourbon for this recipe. Stir well until all ingredients are well blended and the ice has melted down some. Add the garnish of a maraschino cherry and an orange slice into the martini glass, then strain the cocktail into the martini glass.

Thoroughly stir the Kahlua and half and half in a shaker with an ice cube. Drop a maraschino cherry into a 2 oz. cordial glass.  Strain mixture into cordial glass over cherry. Add the grenadine, gently pouring along the side of the glass so it settles to the bottom. Make in batches for that special toast.
